About

The Camille Claudel Museum, located in Nogent-sur-Seine, 40 minutes from Sens, at the crossroads of the Yonne, Aube and Seine-et-Marne, focuses on sculpture in the time of Camille Claudel. It is the largest collection of Camille Claudel's works, allowing us to understand the artist's evolution and to perceive her personality.

*** Why a museum dedicated to Camille Claudel? ***

It was in Nogent-sur-Seine that the young Camille Claudel, aged 12, discovered modelling and found her vocation for sculpture. Initially self-taught, her talent was soon noticed by Alfred Boucher, winner of a second prize in Rome for sculpture, whose parents also lived in Nogent. He took her under his wing and encouraged the Claudel family to develop this gift.

*** A visit based on a sensitive experience ***

The Camille Claudel Museum has an important collection of sculptures from the second half of the 19th century. More than 300 works are gathered around a tour that traces the history of sculpture, the sculpture of Camille Claudel's time, and the importance of this art in bourgeois homes. Audioguides and guided tours allow you to follow this path, at your own pace and within everyone's reach. There is a special tour for families, for example, to please the youngest visitors! For adults, the guided tour can focus on the permanent collections or on Camille Claudel and Auguste Renoir (dates of these tours can be consulted on the Museum's website).

*** A living museum, inviting encounters and sharing ***

All year round, the Camille Claudel Museum organises workshops for children, events, conferences, readings, screenings, live performances... Consult our online agenda or the Museum's agenda to find out what's on!
