Enjoy this unique 16th century Italian palace with your groups, an awesome chateau loaded with rich history and known for its original architecture and one of the finest collections of mural paintings in France (16th and 17th centuries), which makes it the direct contender to the castle of Fontainebleau. The chateau is the design of a famous Italian architect working for King Francis 1. SERLIO and it was built for the brother-in-law of Diane de Poitiers. Today considered as one of the important heritage and tourist attractions in the region of Burgundy.
Artists of the School of Fontainebleau, Italian masters, Burgundian and Flemish painters of the 16th and 17th centuries have participated in furbishing the apartments and the richly decorated halls of Ancy le Franc. Galleries adorned with flamboyant designs, medallions and walls representing mythological and religious scenes, chambers and cabinets enriched with splendidly sculpted and decorated wainscots, beautiful coffered ceilings, marble floors. You will visit more than 4 apartments, 3 galleries, the royal apartment, the room of Flowers, the Guards hall, the famous Pharsale gallery, the chapel and much more and new since 2014: the opening of a part of the ground floor with the apartment of Diana with the famous Room of Diana, lavishly decorated with 16th century murals just restored (2002-2013). The tour is a true journey through 5 centuries of history.
The palace is set in the centre of a magnificent park of 123 acres. Besides the château the estate comprises immense stables and stalls, a farmhouse on the grounds, an orangery, a 18th century folly situated on a small island in the middle of a pond, small bridges, paths, centuries old trees, horse ring, pyramid, ... Idyllic surroundings for rounding off the visit after the tour of the interiors of the chateau.
