The Museum-Gallery Carnot is located partly in the gateway of Joigny, built in the twelfth century under the reign of Louis VII to protect the walled city.

The Fine Arts section of the museum gives pride to the works of artists who, since the nineteenth century, were attracted and seduced by Villeneuve-sur-Yonne, including goupe Nabis (comprised Vuillard, Bonnard, Toulouse-Lautrec ...). The works of the sculptor Emile Peynot, or even Picabia painters and cartoonists, Balke, Berthold Mahn, Gallard, highlight the landscapes of the Yonne.

The second floor hosts temporary exhibitions and offers a remarkable view of the city itself, which reveals its urbanism.
